Of course, I use the tanglefoot recommended but thin it with some cooking oil in a small container for easier spreading onto the yellow plastic. Works great. I have also had limited success spreading old motor oil onto yellow plastic.girginia gardenernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32153083.post-78982973521967807232013-05-04T11:38:59.410-05:002013-05-04T11:38:59.410-05:00I would think this would work for squash stem bore...I would think this would work for squash stem bores as well. I only have a small personal garden with about 20 tomatoes. They also crawl up stems, but their primary means of transport is to fly from food source to food source.

Check out some of the big box stores, K-Mart, Target, etc. and usually one or the other of them have yellow cups. The other thing you can use are the water noodles that kids play with. Dollar Store usually has them for around a dollar and they can be cut up into pieces (use yellow, of course). The only sticky substance that doesn't wash off, and thus, works, is Tree Tanglefoot. Search on-line, Tree Tanglefoot is easily available, and cheap.

Good luck!
(Sorry I couldn't contact you directly but blog comments don't provide any way of emailing).Jim Longs Gardenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12018979072600103985noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32153083.post-40674854312116461122011-06-07T17:02:20.019-05:002011-06-07T17:02:20.019-05:00What is the concept for the cups - do they fly int...What is the concept for the cups - do they fly into, crawl up to or fall on to the cups? (I dont know yet how they travel). I would think if they crawled up to one, they would be found concentrated at the edge of the sticky zone.

Looks like you found yellow cups. No cups found here, so i'll try taping some yellow plastic around styrofoam cups. Does the sticky substance have to be specific or can it be anythng thats sticky to bugs?
Thanks (aphid infested mike in san diego)mikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12037717199397934729noreply@blogger.com
